Bloomie Skills: Behavioural assessment for children
Bloomie Skills2026AI Agents
Bloomie Skills shows parents how their child learns. Children play short games, and parents get plain insight into how their child plans, asks for help, and handles mistakes, without scores or labels.
Role
Product & Design Lead. Owned product strategy, learning design, and system architecture across AI, engineering, and design.
Core idea
- Play:
- Children aged 5–8 play short missions on a tablet.
- Observe:
- Each mission is built to reveal a behaviour, not test a skill.
- Read:
- Track how a child plans, persists, and asks for help.
- Report:
- Give parents a few plain sentences, directly on WhatsApp.
Key decisions
- No scores:
- Reported how a child works, never what they can do, to avoid labelling young children.
- Built-in challenge:
- Designed every mission around a small struggle, since behaviour only shows under challenge.
- Help when stuck:
- Kept the helper hidden until a child got stuck, so asking for help stays meaningful.
- Honest AI reports:
- Restricted reports to claims backed by what the child actually did.
Outcomes
- Shipped 30 missions tracking 11 learning behaviours.
- Piloted with 26 families across the UK, US, and Nigeria, in collaboration with 2 schools.
- Delivered a true picture of a child’s behavioural profile in under 8 weeks, validated by an external authority.
Where it started
Bloomie Skills evolved from Bloomie Supports, where we set out to run autonomous, always-available audio-visual sessions that could teach anything. The tech wasn’t ready, concept mastery was already a crowded market, and we didn’t have the large content library to compete. So we pivoted to a niche few had explored: how children behave while they learn.
